Thriving Kids: Changing the Story of Trauma

Build the knowledge and skills to support youth mental health, strengthen resilience, and create environments where young people can thrive

Young people today face rising levels of anxiety, depression, and exposure to adversity. At the same time, research shows that supportive relationships and positive experiences can change outcomes.

This online course gives youth service professionals practical tools to understand what young people are carrying, respond with care, and create environments that promote growth and positive outcomes.

You will learn how mental health develops in children and teens, how trauma and adversity shape behavior, and how everyday interactions can build resilience.

This course is designed for people who show up every day for youth. Your role matters, and the way you respond can help a young person feel safe, supported, and understood.

Each lesson is short and practical, with videos, real-world scenarios, reflection prompts, and a downloadable workbook to support application in your daily work.

This course is self-paced and accessible online. After registration, you will receive instructions to begin.

Why this course matters

Youth mental health is shaped by both adversity and protection. Trauma can affect how young people think, feel, and behave. At the same time, consistent relationships and positive experiences can build strength and change trajectories.

As a youth service professional, you are part of that environment. The way you show up, the spaces you create, and the relationships you build all contribute to whether a young person feels safe and supported.

This course focuses on what you can do, every day, to make that difference.
